Healthy Home Habits: Part 5 - Switch Off & Boost Your Mood With Mindful Styling

Welcome back to Happybeams & Co.'s Healthy Home Habits series! This month, we're focusing on styling and those all-important finishing touches. But instead of just giving you a shopping list, I want to chat about a more mindful approach to creating a space that reflects you and boosts your mood.

As the saying goes, our home is an extension of ourselves. We've all experienced that feeling when life gets hectic and our surroundings seem to mirror the chaos. But the good news is, a few simple tweaks can completely transform a space, not just aesthetically but emotionally too.

Think about self-care for a moment. What pops into your mind? Maybe a long soak in the tub, a nature walk, or even just five minutes of peace and quiet. But here's the thing: revamping a corner of your home, whether it's restyling a shelf, rearranging cushions, or decluttering a drawer, can be a fantastic way to de-stress and unwind.

At Happybeams & Co., we want to help you create havens in your home – a calming living room, a cosy snug for family time, or a tranquil bedroom retreat. But if tackling a whole room feels overwhelming, let's break it down and focus on what truly matters.

Styling with Intention

Feeling stuck? Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Take a step back and assess. Are your spaces missing a personal touch or a connection to nature?

  • Embrace the meaningful.  Incorporate things that spark joy – a treasured book, a family photo, a travel memento.  Maybe there's a box of hidden gems under your bed – rediscover those pieces and give them a special spot!

  • Wall art with a story.  Think beyond generic prints.  Opt for a handwritten recipe, sheet music you love, or a map of a place that holds special memories.

  • Something living. Houseplants are fantastic, but that's not all! Bring in natural elements – wood, marble, wicker – to add depth and texture.  Candles (especially lit ones!) also count – so dig out those hidden ones from the back of the cupboard.

  • Decorate for all senses.  Sight and touch are important, but don't forget fragrance and sound! We'll delve deeper into fragrance soon, but for sound, explore pink, white, and brown noise.

Decluttering with Purpose

Need to declutter as you style? Here are some handy questions to ask yourself:

  • Does it spark joy?  If not, let it find a new home where it will be loved.

  • How do you want to feel in this space?  If an item doesn't contribute, relocate it.

  • Would you buy it now?  Be honest with yourself.

  • Vision board check.  Does it align with your vision, or is it time to say goodbye?

Vision boards are another fantastic mindful activity, especially if you're feeling uninspired or unsure where to begin. They can give you the boost you need to reignite your creativity.

Embrace the Journey

Most importantly, take your time. Your home is a constant work in progress, and that's the beauty of it! It evolves with you, so embrace the changes.

The key is to enjoy your space and appreciate what you have. Don't get bogged down by the pressure of perfection. Savour the simple moments – setting the table for dinner, making your bed in the morning.

I hope this blog post has given you some fresh ideas and a new perspective on creating a mindful and stylish home.

Stay tuned for next month's Healthy Home Habits!

Thanks so much for reading,
